1. How can I apply for coaching?

Simply choose what programme you want, click the registration button, pay the fee and a member of our team will get in touch to confirm your place.

2. How long does the coaching session last?

Personalised coaching usually lasts for 60 minutes each via Skype using the webcam. All coaching will be led by our Founder, Talyn Rahman-Figueroa, unless specified otherwise.

3. How are the coaching sessions scheduled?

A member of our team will email you with a list of available dates to choose from. In the unlikely case that you need to re-schedule, a fresh set of dates will be shared with you on a first-come-first-served basis.

4. Who is the work placement with?

All work placements will be with Grassroot Diplomat on real projects that the organisation is currently working on. Your role will be highly dependent on your skills, ambition and experience which will be discussed with you at your first coaching session.

5. What can I expect from the work placement?

You will be assigned a dedicated mentor throughout the 2-month work placement who will help you achieve your goals and personal development discussed with your coach. You will be expected to keep in touch with your mentor on a weekly basis and complete project-related tasks assigned to you. The nature of the project will be discussed with you after you sign a volunteer agreement as many of our projects are confidential in nature. If you are not happy with your task, this can be discussed with your mentor. Our job is to help you learn and come out of the programme more confident with your career progression and will be open to suggestions.

6. Will expenses be covered for work placements?

All work placements are remote and can be done using a good internet connection and a laptop. No travel or subsistence will be required. For this reason, no expenses will be covered. We recommend you discuss any support element with your mentor. 

7. How long is the work placement for?

Your work placement will be for 8 weeks with a minimum commitment of 10-hours per week. This will be from a remote location of your choice. Your start date is dependent upon your schedule and you may be given the option of extending your work placement under the discretion of your coach and mentor. If you cannot commit 10-hours per week, you will need to discuss this with your mentor.

8. What happens if I can’t start the work placement immediately?

You have the option of starting the work placement any time of the year. So, if you need to schedule the placement 6-months in advance, we are flexible and ensure that your place is secure.

9. How many places are available for work placements?

We usually have ten places at a time for work placements. If spaces are filled, you will be put on a waiting list and notified as soon as places are available.

10. Is it possible to just have coaching without the work placement?

Yes – you have the option of choosing just the 1-2-1 Diplomatic Coaching or the 3-month Diplomatic Development Training.

11. What is the difference between the Diplomatic Coaching and the Diplomatic Development Training programme?

Diplomatic Coaching is an ad hoc session which provides you with flexibility on what advice you require from our coach. The Development Training is a fixed programme where you will be required to complete certain tasks under the advice and discretion of your coach and mentor for your development. The Development Training will involve you to complete a strategic workbook to track your progress and career plan which will not be available in the 1-2-1 coaching.

12. Can I purchase the Diplomatic Development Workbook without doing the programme?

Unfortunately, the workbook is designed specifically for the Diplomatic Development Training and will not be made available on any other platform. You may wish to purchase the Diplomatic Planner which offers rich and practical insights into skills required in the field of international relations. More information here.
