Debbie Abrahams MP Nominated for Protecting Small Businesses
Debbie Abrahams MP of Oldham East and Saddleworth has been nominated for the inaugural Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Award. The award looks to recognise outstanding diplomats and politicians in the UK for their dedication, commitment and selfless efforts in representing civilian matters at the highest level.
Nominated under the Business Driver category, Mrs Abrahams has been the forefront of a campaign to improve late payments affecting small businesses. Late payments can break a small business and many business owners wait for months until they are paid for their work. Mrs Abrahams is lobbying hard to encourage 75 of the top FTSE 100 companies, who are not already signatories of the Prompt Payment Code. To date, she has achieved 13 top FTSE 100 sign-ups since July 2012 with the support of her partner organisations the Forum of Private Business, the Federation of Small Businesses and the Institute of Credit Management.
Talyn Rahman-Figueroa, Director of Grassroot Diplomat said, “Grassroot diplomacy empowers the voiceless, defines a path for the hopeless, and restores faith to influencers. The Initiative Award seeks to build trust again between the ‘us and them’ and bring people of all statuses together.”
Mrs Abrahams is committed to engaging the grassroots in its combined efforts to protect businesses from preventable failures, and for this, her efforts are being recognised here.
Over 50 high-level government officials have been nominated in 3 categories but there can only be six winners. Join Debbie Abrahams and other government nominees at the Vincent Rooms, Westminster with evening performance led by Euro-Vision Song Contest artist, Imaani.
