Founder Reveals - Importance of Self-Analysis
*Published January 2015 for the Grassroot Diplomat Magazine
For me, 2014 was the year of self-development at a critical time when a friend of mine was ready to give up on life. It was a time of reflection and self-analysis all in the name of becoming a stronger person. No one said starting an organisation was going to be easy, but no one warned me about the extreme highs and extreme lows that go along with it.
I want Grassroot Diplomat to be an organisation that makes people be a better version of themselves, where the social divide is erased and replaced with equality. Diplomacy, by virtue, is a tool of communication not to be practiced just by government institutions but by anyone; be it an angry spouse, a stifled child, a conflicted boss, or an ignored community. Through this magazine, our many training programmes, networking events, and membership plans, my aim is for Grassroot Diplomat to provide tangible skills that can be easily picked up by anyone and used by everyone.
Grassroot Diplomat breathes life into stilted institutions that have lost the meaning of "oneness".
How can you measure yourself against a corporation that has enough money to build a new country on a whim, or speak out against your own country when you will be demonised for your opinions? How about finding strength to aligning yourself with your people knowing full well that your decision can alienate key strategic partners who bring power into your country?
These are some of the fires Grassroot Diplomat walks into, but we do so for the purpose of ensuring that governments, civil society, and corporations work together for a common cause that is beneficial to the people which they serve and provides them their success. This is no easy feat. It requires resources, contacts, and powerful allies, but as a representative of grassroot causes, it is a job that burns passionately within me and hopefully within our supporters.
Let 2015 be a year of understanding and common interest, where diplomacy triumphs over wars whether in the heart, on the surface, or in the public eye.
