Phone Hacking Champion Tom Watson MP Nominated for Grassroot Diplomat Award
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tom Watson MP of West Bromwich East has been nominated for the first ever Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Awards. The award looks to recognise outstanding diplomats and politicians in the UK for their dedication, commitment and selfless efforts in representing civilian matters at the highest level.
Nominated under the Policy Driver category, Mr Watson played a significant role in opening up the News International phone hacking scandal to the wider society. The MP has provided outstanding contribution towards uncovering unethical methods of journalists hacking into civilian phones as a source of information to publish in the News of the World. Mr Watson has been focusing on the Rupert Murdoch enquiry for some years and has generated high-level interest on an issue much that affects much of society.
Talyn Rahman-Figueroa, Director of Grassroot Diplomat said, “Grassroot diplomacy empowers the voiceless, defines a path for the hopeless, and restores faith to influencers. The Initiative Award seeks to build trust again between the ‘us and them’ and bring people of all statuses together.”
Mr Watson is committed to engaging the grassroots in its combined efforts to protect the innocent, and for this, his efforts are being recognised here.
Over 50 high-level government officials have been nominated in 3 categories but there can only be six winners. Join Tom Watson and other government nominees at the Vincent Rooms, Westminster with evening performance led by Euro-Vision Song Contest artist, Imaani.
