London, UK – March 5, 2015 – His Excellency Julio Muñoz Deacon of Peru has been shortlisted from over 100 candidates this year for the 3rd Annual Grassroot Diplomat Initiative Award. The award recognises outstanding politicians and diplomats who are representing civilian interests at the highest level in areas of policy, social and business overall. Mr. Muñoz Deacon is nominated for the support of business road show ‘InPeru’.

Mr Muñoz Deacon has proven to be an excellent facilitator for businesses looking to do work in Peru in times of rapid growth. The United Kingdom is the second investor in Peru’s mining export with great levels of produce sales including asparagus, mangoes and limes to the British market. The Ambassador is keen to attract more investors with potential for collaboration in other areas such as sustainable energy, water management and climate change.

Peru believes strongly in the private sector seeing a good rate of growth in the last ten years which has led to the advent of entrepreneurs in the country. Now in its fourth year, the embassy has been active in supporting business road show ‘InPeru’, an event that runs for two days with the purpose of creating business opportunities for various enterprises and sectors. The event was attended by Peruvian Ministers and a delegation of 55 business executives.

On a more local level, Mr Muñoz Deacon has been active in developing exposure to the Peruvian gastronomy sector. With 10 Peruvian restaurants in the UK, the embassy now encourages individuals to learn cooking skills from local chefs specialising in Peruvian fusion food.

Talyn Rahman-Figueroa, Executive Director of Grassroot Diplomat, said: “All too often, we hear stories of our governments not representing our needs but Grassroot Diplomat looks upon selfless individuals who work tirelessly for their communities. The award seeks to create a culture of positive role models within our governments which encourages others in power to follow suit.”

Mr Muñoz Deacon notes, “For the past 20 years we’ve had average sustainable growth of 5, 6, and 7 per cent. If you compare us to the rest of the world, we’re doing well. A new middle class is appearing and poverty is diminishing.”

Join HE Julio Muñoz Deacon and other government nominees for the gala dinner at The May Fair Hotel, London on Thursday 5th March 2015. For ticket information please visit: or call 07511 816689.
