We currently have several vacancies on the Board of Directors to fill and I am on a keen lookout for professionals wanting to serve at senior level. While a specific set of skill set is important, nothing is more important than passion, integrity, and a true desire to be a part of change that could be significant for decades to come. The work we do isn’t going to disappear overnight and diplomacy is becoming more and more complex with new actors and personalities in the play. This only makes things interesting for us as it pushes us to go beyond boundaries, continue to innovate and strive to reach out to expats and diplomats at all levels. As said our acting Chair Cherisse, the work of Grassroot Diplomat is that of a “legacy”. And legacies don’t die quickly!
When she first said that to me, I felt completely overwhelmed, like the weight of the world was on my shoulders and I felt as though this mission that I created was just too much to bare. But not once was I alone - the generous and awesome powers of the Board of Directors is what continues to keep me afloat. These amazing individuals ensure that the health of the organisation - as well as its executive staff, are flexible, breathing, resilient, and on fire to keep doing, doing, and doing.
Without the support of the Board, the mission of this organisation would have been very different, perhaps even wrong. Our Board help to set the tone, strategy, and voice for the organisation. They shape our future whilst ensuring that the present has a solid foundation. They breathe life into projects after hours of debate and scrutiny. They kill programmes that have no place in our current society.
